The former DEP Secretary and gubernatorial candidate Katie McGinty unveiled her fundraising from 2013; she brought in $2.4 million.

According to her campaign, $2 million was raised in the second half of the year and nothing significant came from McGinty herself, and nothing at all from previous campaign fund transfers. The latter assertion is clearly a nod to Rep. Allyson Schwartz and State Treasurer Rob McCord who each transferred a few million from their previous campaign funds into the gubernatorial fund.

“Our fundraising has exceeded our expectations. It demonstrates we will have the resources to compete and win this election,” McGinty said. “I am overwhelmed by the support we are receiving from every corner of Pennsylvania. Voters are clearly responding to our proposals to strengthen the middle class by creating jobs, restoring Tom Corbett’s $1 billion cuts to education, making college more affordable, and improving the lives of working families by cutting taxes and increasing the minimum wage.”

Though the last Harper Poll put McGinty in second place of the Democratic field, she does lag a little behind in fundraising.

McCord’s campaign has reported $6 million on hand going into 2014 and Schwartz claimed $6.5 million raised (including campaign fund transfers and without accounting for spending). Wolf’s finances have blown all of the other candidates out of the water, mostly due to a $10 million check he and his wife wrote to the campaign. Including that contribution, his campaign raised $13.27 million last year.

“We have always expected be outspent by long-time elected officials like Allyson Schwartz and Rob McCord and by Tom Wolf’s mega millions. But with Katie, we have the best candidate, the strongest message, policy proposals to improve the lives of hard working families, and the financial resources to not just win this election, but build a brighter Pennsylvania,” said Mike Mikus, McGinty Campaign Manager.

All of the campaign finance reports will be public by early February, and we’ll see how much the other candidates have on hand, including former DEP Secretary John Hanger, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, minister Max Myers and Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz.
