The race for the Democratic nomination for governor has become akin to the hokey pokey this month – you put one candidate in, you take one candidate out.
This week, it’s minister Max Myers dropping out.
According to CapitolWire’s Kevin Zwick, Myers cited logistical and financial problems as the reason for his withdrawal.
Myers was actually the first candidate to declare his run for governor but the second to withdraw. Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski was the first to leave the race, throwing his support behind State Treasurer Rob McCord.
Myers is a retired U.S Army veteran who served as a crane operator in the service from 1971 to 1974. He later was commissioned in the Illinois National Guard as a Chaplain Candidate. Since 2007, he has served as director of Global Awakenings Ministry School in Mechanicsburg, PA.
His withdrawal narrows the Democratic field to 7: Rep. Allyson Schwartz, State Treasurer Rob McCord, former Revenue Secretary Tom Wolf, former DEP Secretaries Katie McGinty and John Hanger, and Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz. The newest entrant to the race is former Auditor General Jack Wagner.

The next governor will be a Democrat. The question is which one, and with what interest and background in actual issues like energy, jobs, and education. FYI, here is what the candidates have said on a fracking moratoriium:
In response to “Do you support a moratorium on Fracking?” at the 1/26/14 debate at Carnegie Mellon University, tabulated from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zANT-Ztk7rY/:
everywhere in PA: Myers (now out of race)
in state parks and forests and Delaware River basin: Hanger, Schwartz, Wolf
in state parks and forests: Litz, McCord, McGinty, Pawlowski (now out of race)
entered the race since then, views undeclared: Paterno, Wagner
Wendy Lee—so, who are you supporting? You are so rabid as a 1-issue person, that your are driving a wedge between your issue and every candidate. As for me, I am an environmentalist with plenty of other issues also of importance. That is why I support John Hanger.
*logistical and financial problems translate to
1. I don’t have the people to get 1000 signatures to get onto the ballot.
2. I don’t have the money to be taken seriously.
I’ve no special desire to beat a dead horse–or one that had little chance from the outset, but I do have an investment in honesty, and the likelihood that Mr. Myers dropped out solely for “logistical and financing reasons” is, well, not the whole story: http://thewrenchphilosleft.blogspot.com/2014/02/mad-max-myers-is-not-my-anti-fracking.html.
Lest we think, however, that John Hanger–or ANY of the current stable of Democratic party candidates are really worth our vote, consider this: http://thewrenchphilosleft.blogspot.com/2014/02/john-hanger-wants-to-be-your-big-gas.html
…make that zero official candidates (those who have either filed required finance reports or had petitions approved) who support a fracking moratorium.
If we can get the race down to six, the voters can roll dice. 🙂
