PA-Gov: Schwartz Picks Up Pitt Endorsements

Allyson-Schwartz-2013-lores1Tom Wolf isn’t the only Democrat with friends and supporters in Pittsburgh.

Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz netted endorsements from Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa, former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy, and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman — all Pittsburgh-area politicians — for her campaign for governor.

“Every day, we are feeling the momentum from Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth who want experienced leadership that will shake up Harrisburg,” Schwartz said. “I am the only candidate who has the record of accomplishment and the proven leadership to get important things done for Pennsylvania families.”

Schwartz’ campaign recently began running ads on broadcast cable and her stock seems to be collectively rising as the primary approaches.

“As a former colleague, I know that Allyson is proven, tested and has the experience to break through the status quo in Harrisburg,” said Costa. “She will deliver universal pre-k for four year olds and a reasonable shale drilling severance tax that will fund our public schools.”

“Allyson is a doer,” Murphy said. “She has the experience and the proven leadership to lead Pennsylvania forward to invest in education, infrastructure and our economic future.”

“Allyson Schwartz is the right choice to beat Tom Corbett this fall,” Fetterman stated. She will make the right investments in our local communities to bring new jobs and economic growth. I am proud to endorse her candidacy to bring proven leadership and a new direction to Harrisburg.”

Although the support is not as large as the endorsement Tom Wolf garnered from Pittsburgh lawmakers back in March, it still showcases Schwartz’ widespread appeal in the Commonwealth.

Also vying for the Democratic nomination is former DEP Secretary Katie McGinty and State Treasurer Rob McCord.

  1. Good luck with the Murphy endorsement. He was the most polarizing pol in Pittsburgh during his tenure.
