With the primary less than a week away, Allyson Schwartz’s campaign boasts impressive contact numbers, all in an effort to get the word out about her candidacy.
Since March 11th, Schwartz’s staff has called over 250,000 voters, knocked on over 175,000 doors and recruited more than 1,100 active volunteers.
“We have the proven ground game to motivate our supporters to the polls,” said Corey Dukes, Schwartz’ campaign manager. “Voters across Pennsylvania are excited about Allyson’s candidacy to beat Tom Corbett and bring proven leadership to Harrisburg to get important things done for Pennsylvania families.”
Dukes added: “In a low turnout election, a ground game is absolutely essential. We have invested in a strong one that is ready to turn out our supporters on primary day.”
Schwartz’s ground support has been impressive from the beginning, showcased especially in the over 22,000 petition signatures she was able to amass back in early March.
However, contact numbers tend to be a tad misleading, and oftentimes they are not good indicators of success at the polls.
When volunteers knock on doors or make calls, those numbers are counted no matter what, even if no one answered the door or picked up the phone. So although her contact totals are large, there is no telling how this will affect the primary on Tuesday.
According to the most recent Franklin & Marshall poll, Schwartz still trailed businessman Tom Wolf by more than 17% of the vote.
Schwartz faces Wolf, State Treasurer Rob McCord, and former DEP Secretary Katie McGinty in Tuesday’s gubernatorial Democratic primary.

@julia I volunteered for Wolf last weekend and the sheets were the same as Obama they are using Votebuilder
So Bob, are you saying Wolf is using Voterweb?????? THAT’S the guy we are nominating? *facepalm*
David just assumes that the rest of us are ignorant rubes incapable of understanding the political process. At the end of the day, it is OUR vote and OUR choice to make. He just trolls the message boards to draw attention to Voterweb and demolishes those candidates who have decided to use Votebuilder (his competitor). I will hand it to David though, he is very accommodating when it comes to fielding other people’s opinions 🙂 🙂 🙂
David Diano: Mainsplain of the year
Lol at David Diano… do you do anything in life beside post on Politics PA? 🙂
Liz McGlee-
What you may not realize is that Schwartz has been turning off women voters with her campaign. In particular, her “old boys club” remark in her ad was viewed negatively by women as insulting to actual feminism.
While it’s important to have more women in elected office, Allyson’s gender is not a relevant criteria, and hardly enough to make up for her many other deficiencies.
For example, Schwartz is the least educated of the 4 candidates:
Schwartz: She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Simmons in 1970, as well as a Master of Social Work degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1972.
McGinty: She graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Saint Joseph’s University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
McCord: Undergrad from Harvard. MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Wolf: He received a B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1972, an M.A. from the University of London in 1978 and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981.
So, considering the importance of Education this election, do we really want the least educated candidate? (especially who thinks that she’s earned a place in the “old boy’s club”, without the academic credentials)
@Desperate and Pathetic- Pro-corbett? who the hell would be pro-corbett?? I’m behind the strongest candidate and the best on for this state, Allyson Schwartz. You seem to have been blinded by all of the cash Wolf’s dropped.
Any person who pays attention to @Liz McGlee is a fool. She has been posting pro-Corbett messages on this site for months. Now she wants everybody to think she supports Allyson Schwartz because she is the strongest Democratic candidate? OK. @Liz McGlee seems to think a few of her posts on this website can turn a 20% lead for Wolf into a win for Schwartz so that Corbett (@Liz McGlee’s favorite candidate) wins.
I wish people who use the strategy of @Liz McGlee were running Corbett’s campaign. Unfortunately, I know most of the people running the Corbett campaign are far smarter.
I wish @Liz McGlee good luck crying about a double digit win for Wolf on Tuesday and in November. I would say “sorry to break your hear,” but I’m not sorry.
Liz, who ever wins the Democratic primary will have no problem raising money and that’s a fact. So that shouldn’t even play into someone’s vote. Also, women will turn out because women turn out more than men do anyways. It worries me that you think women only care about elections if there is a woman in the race. The polls show that Schwartz isn’t even leading among women now.
@BGdem- no one knows how to raise funds or run campaigns like Allyson can. Plus why would Philly or women turn out during a old white guy vs old white guy race.
“However, contact numbers tend to be a tad misleading, and oftentimes they are not good indicators of success at the polls.”
These calls and door knocks did not occur in the last 48 hours. So, this week’s polls already incorporate all those contacts, and Schwartz remains far behind.
(And it’s not like Wolf and McCord are twiddling their thumbs and have no volunteers).
Also, there are about 1,600 precincts in Philly. Poll coverage will likely be done by committee people at the direction of the ward leaders with endorsed candidates on the sample ballots. There are just over 9,000 precincts in the state.
So, the (alleged) 1100 volunteers aren’t going to be boots-on-the-ground at 7am when the polls open handing out sample ballots.
How many volunteers do the other campaigns have so we can make a relative comparison?
YAWN, most of pennsylvania doesnt believe in her liberal garbage.
Liz, Schwartz is not the only one that can beat Corbett in Nov.
@Justin, you must not want help paying off your student loans, or healthcare, or environmental protection, or most importantly- beat Corbett.
Im 24 years old and she her campaign has contracted me and I told them I was proudly voting for Tom Wolf
I looked at everybody’s petitions on the DOS website. In the geography I know best, most of Schwatz’s 300+ [from a single circulator] were bad because they were all from a college campus where signers used their post office, not geography. So I’m not impressed by 22,000 signatures.
