“I’ve slept on this but can no longer hold back.”
No good can come of an email that begins with such a sentence.
Turns out that’s how former DEP Secretary John Quigley began the message that ultimately led to his resignation.
The email was released by Marie Cusick of WITF and StateImpactPA. It provides some context into the conflict that led to the episode and why environmentalists are still upset about Quigley’s ouster.
You can view the message, complete with “Chapter 78” subject heading, along with the date/time it was sent here.
The full text is also included below (NSFW):
I’ve slept on this but can no longer hold back.
Where the fuck were you people yesterday? The House and Senate hold Russian show trials on vital environmental issues and there’s no pushback at all from the environmental community? Nobody bothering to insert themselves in the news cycle?
Is there no penalty for D apostasy, at least, or shaming of the gas-shilling Rs? Apparently so.
Do some of you think that staying on your moratorium hobby horse does anything to advance the cause of protecting the environment and public health?
Do you really think the Governor will veto this shit with NO support?
The environmental community is without influence in Harrisburg. What will you do about it?

Don’t see why he was fired. Apparently telling the truth in Harrisburg is a firing offense. Who cares if he was pissing people off–depends on which people.
There was more than just this email. The guy has pissed off a number of people by advancing his own agenda, rather than one coordinated with the Governor. The Gov has made the mistake of putting a bunch of people in the Capitol who think they are all there to set their own agendas. Not to work for the Governor. Where is Mary?
I’m not 100% sure there’s anything particularly critical of Wolf here. It’s just acknowledging political reality. If there’s no support for taking pro-environment positions, many politicians won’t stick their neck out for it.
Can we all give up the notion that Pennsylvania is a progressive state?
To whom did he send the email?
Any likely suspects?
So, why was he fired?
Well, you can’t be speaking the Truth in a Wolf (R-Lite, PA Gov) Administration can you? Especially when it’s about the guys bringing the bags of money to the Gov’s PAC. What was Quigs thinking??
