PA-Gov: Tom Wolf Opens Pittsburgh Office

western pa for wolfAfter the former Revenue Secretary received the backing of most of the prominent Western Pa. lawmakers, a grand office opening in Pittsburgh seemed to be in order.

In a white-walled room drenched in plenty of evening sunlight, Wolf supporters scuttled passed one another in hopes of getting a better view when he addressed the crowd.

“If I didn’t think we could do better than we are doing, I wouldn’t be running for this office,” Wolf said. “I want to move this state forward.”

Wolf was off the cuff in his address, making jokes and having fun with the crowd. “Is everyone here a Democrat?” he asked with a laugh.

But that joke set up one of his talking points. Wolf wanted to tell a room full of progressive thinking Democrats that to enact change you have to do it through the system in place.

“If you want to move something forward, you have to do it the right way. The real world is the right world,” he said. “I want to move Pennsylvania forward, and I want to do it the right way.”

State Representative Ed Gainey was there to introduce Tom Wolf and officially announce the opening of the office — which falls into his district.

“This election is about people,” Gainey said enthusiastically. “We need to invest in people.”

“We need to create equity” in this Commonwealth, “and that is why I am supporting Tom Wolf,” Gainey said.

Wolf couldn’t emulate the fire that Gainey brought to his speech, but Wolf had no problem making light of that fact.

“I don’t know about you, but I could listen to [Ed Gainey] all night,” Wolf said. “But I guess I have to say something.” The crowd laughed in response.

Wolf has a lot to be jolly about; all of the latest polls show him with a comfortable lead and he got a major head start in television advertising. To win the Democratic nomination he’ll have to best four other contenders: State Treasurer Rob McCord, Rep. Allyson Schwartz, former DEP Secretary Katie McGinty and former Auditor General Jack Wagner.

  1. I am wondering why you would legislate the installation of smart meters when they are known to cause health risks, ie, leukemia & other cancers; possibly cause fires and or explosions, which I read neither the ins. companies nor the utility companies will take responsibility for. I also read that rates will possibly be higher. Last, but not least, it is an invasion of the privacy of the public. Usage can be monitored in real time, and who knows what that will lead to…. I would like to know why you did this to us? A smart meter on every home will collectively emit quite a bit of radiation, then the community will come down with “mystery” illnesses. Thank you for caring so much for the people you govern.

  3. DEAR TOM,
I AM A DEMOCRAT & I OWN A BUSSINES WHICH EMPLOY 11 PEOPLE,I DON’T AGREE YOUR STAND ON INCREASING MIN WAGE OVER 10 $/HR WHICH WILL SEND 10 PEOPLE TO UNEMPLOYMENT. I WANT TO REMAIN DEMOCRAT BUT IF YOUR STAND DOES NOT CHANGE I WILL BE VOTING REPUBLICAN.

  4. I was there, very enthusiastic crowd. Many of the more notables were absent to allow the focus to remain on the candidate, not the event. Representative Gainey hit the nail on the head when he spoke of this being an election about people, and they certainly did turn out for Tom. Remember we all get one vote and they all count the same.
I know who will be getting mine, and it will certainly be Tom Wolf!!!!!!!!!

  5. I don’t know about everybody else but im starting to get a tom wolf hangover.why would he open up a office anywhere according to the polls he is a shoe in or maybe not lol
