PA Gov: Wagner Says He’ll Stomp All Over Gov. Tom Wolf’s Face With Golf Spikes On Facebook Live

In what PennLive has described as a “bizarre turn”, GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner released a couple minute Facebook live video this morning expressing his determination to defeat incumbent Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, while saying he’s going to “stomp all over” Wolf’s face with “golf spikes”.

The Facebook video from his campaign’s official page has since been taken down and deleted.

During the video, the GOP candidate was standing next to an anti-Wagner billboard with bundles of paychecks detailing his thoughts that Wolf is not the pro-small business candidate.

“Governor Wolf, let me tell you, between now and November 6th, you better put a catcher’s mask on your face because I’m going to stomp all over your face with golf spikes,” Wagner said, “because I’m going to win this for the state of Pennsylvania and we’re throwing you out of office,” according to the Post-Gazette.

Shortly thereafter, the Facebook live video went viral and garnered headlines from various national outlets.

The Wagner campaign says that specific comment was not meant to be taken literally.

“Scott’s comments were not to be taken literally. He wanted them to be a metaphor for how he will approach the final stretch of the campaign,” said Andrew Romeo, campaign spokesman. “Tom Wolf has spent the entire race hiding behind false and negative attack ads like a coward instead of debating in front of the people of Pennsylvania and Scott will spend the last month of the race making it clear to voters why they should not give him a second term.”

During the rant, Wagner also called out Wolf for not engaging in more than one debate.

“You know what’s interesting? You don’t want to do town hall meetings,” Wagner says in the video according to PennLive. “You don’t want to do debates.”Your campaign people said I raised the white flag?”

The Wolf campaign believes this continues a pattern from their GOP opponent deeming him unfit for the job.

“Scott Wagner’s latest rant shows he is unhinged and unfit for office,” said Karissa Hand, Wolf’s campaign Deputy Communications Director. “Threats of violence have no place in society, especially from someone running for public office. This is part of an unfortunate pattern with Scott Wagner.”

The billboard Wagner was standing beside criticized his management of Penn Waste. Wagner boasted about the work his employees provide and the benefits they receive.

“This is what 100 paychecks looks like,” Wagner said, picking up a bundle according to the Post-Gazette. “There are six bundles of these paychecks we issued today in my various companies. Six hundred paychecks today to hardworking employees who get great wages, great benefits and they have great health insurance.”

Wolf was asked about the comments during an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Board and responded that he thinks he “wouldn’t like that.”

Later in the afternoon, Wagner released a new video explaining his “poor choice of words” during the Facebook Live video.

After explaining the policy differences between himself and Wolf, he said that he is passionate about the race.

“I’m very passionate,” Wagner says in the new video. “Don’t confuse anger with passion. I will continue to fight for the people of Pennsylvania, that’s why I made a decision to run to be the next Governor of Pennsylvania.”

The original comments from the Facebook live drew negative responses from Republicans as well, including House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La).

Amidst the headlines from various national outlets covering the story such as CBS News, Washington Post, and USA Today; CNN’s story mistakenly placed a picture of Philadelphia sports host Michael Barkann alongside Gov. Tom Wolf.

  1. Think back about all the mean stuff Trump said as a candidate. He even ENCOURAGED violence, in my opinon. But Trump is smart enough to not threaten to DO violence. Also in my opinion, Trump is an ass. But he’s doing a decent job as President if we ignore what he says. Wagner isn’t even a credible Trump wannabe. He’s just a mean bully who is power-hungry.I’m no Democrat, but Wagner won’t get my vote.

    1. You know you’re in trouble as Trump knock-off when even a turd polisher like Sklaroff isn’t here to defend your comments and campaign.

  2. Scott Wagner needs a long rest. He has clearly lost it. I cannot imagine how anyone could vote for such an arrogant bully.

  3. Wagner is a PoS who thinks imitating Trump will get him elected. Hopefully, Keystoners have wised up from that Trump love stupidity.

  4. This made me lol: Nothing screams “working-class hero” like walking around in golf spikes. Perhaps the next ad will feature a threat involving Cartier cufflinks

  5. He had a chance to protect Pennsylvanias, as a State Senator. How did he do? He quit, as soon as he decided to run for Governor. When the going gets hard, he gets out.

  6. This was mentioned on the BBC last night!we are an international laughingstock thanks to this idiot

  7. He probably thinks this will turn out the Trumpers in droves. It appears that what works for Trump (for now – although cracks are appearing) doesn’t work for anyone else.

  8. I have to think that this can’t possibly help him in the polls. Any nutbag who would possibly respond favorably to this kind of talk is going to vote for him anyway. And the rest of us scratch our heads and wonder about the sanity of someone whose campaign manager has to back-pedal for his candidate and explain away all of his remarks.

  9. The “golf spikes” statement reminds me of the “confrontation” Scott Wagner had with the tracker at the York Country Club that was on youtube. The poor tracker, most likely a slightly above minimum wage worker in a room at the country club full of millionaires, lawyers, doctors, business people, etc, saw himself become the target of Scott Wagner who told the audience, “watch your state senator in action.” Then confronted the tracker who repeatedly kept asking for his camera back as Wagner went around the country club with it. The entire episode reflected such poor judgment that it seemed hard to believe this man was running for Governor. Now we have yet another episode of Scott Wagner’s poor judgment commenting about stomping Gov Wolf’s face with golf spikes. The Scott Wagner candidacy is going downhill at such a pace that the merciful thing would be for Nov 6th to come soon so that this rapidly fading campaign can reach it’s failing conclusion.

    1. I am still shocked that he went after a tracker like that. It was absolutely insane. No rational candidate would ever do something so mean and reckless.

  10. The man has obviously lost it. He’s getting the polls and he knows he is going down in an embarrassing fashion. He is probably butt hurt too that Trump only gave him a vague mention in Erie the other day. Wagner wanted to be Trump, but it’s obvious that Scotty is only a weak version of the Donald and he couldn’t carry the dotards jock strap.
