PA-Gov: Wolf Hires a CM; KatieMcGinty.com Launches

McGinty logoJoe Shafer will hold the reins of Tom Wolf’s campaign for Governor. The former Pa. Revenue Secretary announced the hire Monday.

“We are committed to running a campaign that we can all be proud of, holding Gov. Corbett accountable for putting special-interests over the interests of the middle-class,” Wolf said in a press release. “We are lucky to have Joe on board. There is no better tactical and strategic mind in Democratic politics today than Joe’s.”

Shafer comes from Bradford County in northeast Pa. He most recently ran the special election and re-election on Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-WV). He worked at the DCCC and was Executive Director of the HDCC in Pa. in 2008.

Wolf’s press release was sent by Jay Howser, himself a veteran of multiple campaigns (most recently Tom Barrett for Governor in Wisconsin).

He is with Philadelphia-based media firm Shorr Johnson Magnus, which Wolf has retained for TV ads and the like. They were part of the trio that made commercials for Sen. Bob Casey last year.

Howser said spokesperson duties will switch to Shafer now that he is on duty.

Wolf is using Anna Greenberg, presently of the firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner and partner of Rendell’s pollster.

Two weeks ago, Wolf’s campaign added longtime Pa. Democratic strategist Mary Isenhour. She previously ran the Pa. Democratic party.

As Capitolwire reported, her business partner – former PA Dems Chair TJ Rooney – is backing Katie McGinty for Governor.

Speaking of the former Pa. Department of Environmental Protection Secretary, McGinty launched her campaign website Monday.

KatieMcGinty.com is live. The home page touts quotes from two of her former bosses:

“Katie has been guided by the firm belief that the environment truly is a common ground. She has strived to promote collaboration over conflict, and to demonstrate that a healthy economy and a healthy environment not only are compatible, but are inextricably linked. Indeed, today we enjoy the strongest economy and cleanest environment in a generation. I am deeply grateful for Katie’s vision, dedication and hard work.”
PRESIDENT WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON
OCTOBER 30, 1998

“From her first day in office, she brought a unique perspective to the way we view environmental challenges: that those challenges are economic opportunities in disguise. Operating under that philosophy, Pennsylvania has become a center of progress and innovation.”
PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR EDWARD G. RENDELL

McGinty lives in Chester County; Wolf lives and manages a family construction business in York County.
