PA-Gov: Wolf Selects New Press Secretary

governor-wolfGovernor Wolf’s top spokesman is stepping aside.

The Governor’s office announced today that Press Secretary Jeffrey Sheridan is leaving the Administration to be replaced by Deputy Press Secretary J.J. Abbott.

“For the last two years, Jeff has been an integral part of our successful efforts to invest in education, create economic opportunity for middle class families, and challenge the status quo in Harrisburg,” Governor Wolf said.

The official statement says that Sheridan “will take on a new role for Governor Wolf outside his official office at the beginning of the new year.” Sheridan confirmed to PoliticsPA that next year he’ll become the campaign manager for Wolf’s 2018 re-election campaign.

Gov. Wolf’s office released the following biography of Abbott:

For the past two years, Abbott has worked with Sheridan, helping manage communications for the governor and advising a number of agencies, including the Departments of Corrections, Transportation, Environmental Protection, Revenue, and State, and the State Police and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, among others.

Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Abbott served as a spokesman for the Office of Attorney General, Director of Communications for the Allegheny County Controller, Campaign Manager of Chelsa Wagner for Controller, and as an aide to former Congressman Joe Sestak and former Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a lifetime Pennsylvania resident.

  1. Okay, so here it is. Wolf has kept La Familia away from the public trough and the Godfather decided that “press secretary” was as close as we could get to “press” the Gov for bond issues, contracts and appointments. We own him through our Wagner stooges and all we have to do is yell “Hey Abbott!!” and he will come running. We would still rather have Tommy, our Loyal garbageman as Gov but no sense crying over spilled beans and greens. “Hey Abbott!”

  2. I worked with JJ. He’s a good guy who busts his butt. Congrats on the new position. You deserve it.

  3. I want to say congraduations to you J.J. Abbott for his new position as press secretary.

  4. Great – the incompetent stooge Sheridan is off the payroll. Why do the taxpayers of PA have to be on the hook for all these “political” hacks to fill the press jobs just so they can spin political bs for their boss. Its disgusting. When are these people going to actually try new, innovative idea and policies to stimulate anything to improve anything in PA??? This governor just wants to take money from the middle class to spend it how he thinks is best. We need leaders with good, innovative ideas – not the same old political machine crap!!
