PA-Sen: Biden Campaigns in Philly with McGinty

Biden-Casey-McGintyVice President Joe Biden and Senator Bob Casey came to Philadelphia yesterday to aid Katie McGinty’s Senate campaign during the final hours before the polls open.

Biden particularly was in his element, working the patrons of the Mayfair Diner. It wasn’t long before photos of the VP went viral.

“I don’t mean to interrupt you,” he said at one point. “Actually, I did.”

That frank, perhaps too frank, honesty is what makes the Vice President so respected as a pure politician.

Through the visit, he compared McGinty to his wife, snapped selfies, planted kisses and ate food with the restaurant patrons.

The former Senator from Delaware also knows enough about Philadelphia to drop in references to TastyKakes and soft pretzels.

While Biden is one of many national and state Democrats to endorse McGinty, he is more personally invested than others.

As Edward Isaac-Dovere of Politico reported, the Vice President has made it his mission to win back the Senate majority for the Democrats this year. After deciding not to run for President, Biden realized that Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and President Obama will be too preoccupied with the race for the White House. As a result, Biden has filled the void.

Democrats would need to win four seats to take back the Senate majority if they hold onto the White House (and the VP tie-breaker) and five if a Republican takes the presidency.

McGinty is running against former Congressman Joe Sestak and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman’s in today’s primary contest.
