He keeps pace this quarter, but is it enough?
GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate, Rep. Lou Barletta raised close to the same amount as incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey from July to the end of September, but still trails the Democrat significantly in cash on hand.
According to the FEC, Barletta raised close to $2.1M in the October filing period, while Casey brought in nearly $2.2M during this period. During the previous quarter the incumbent nearly raised $1 more than the GOP challenger; Casey raised $2.2M once again, but Barletta’s campaign raised close to $1.3M during that filing period from late April to the end of June.
Casey entered the month of October with $6.7M cash on hand for the final weeks of the campaign, while Barletta holds close to $1.3M at the end of this filing period.
The Democratic incumbent maintained his pace of outspending the GOP candidate in this quarter. Casey’s campaign spent $5.3M from July to the end of September, while Barletta spent $2.3M during the same time period. Casey has spent nearly three times more than Barletta in this election cycle-to-date as well. The Democrat has spent $14.5M in the election cycle-to-date, while the Republican has spent $5.3M.
Casey has raised nearly $21M in the election cycle-to-date, while Barletta’s campaign has brought in close to $6.2M.
Libertarian candidate Dale Kerns, raised $180,000 during the filing period from July to the end of September. Their campaign spent close to $175,000 during the previous quarter and entered October with just over $6,500 cash on hand.
Casey and Barletta are still set for two debates in the final weeks of the campaign, this Saturday in Philadelphia on WPVI and Friday, Oct. 26 on KDKA in Pittsburgh, according to The Incline.
According to Kern’s campaign, the League of Women Voters pulled out as a cohost for this Saturday’s debate in Philadelphia due to the Libertarian candidate not being invited.
FiveThirtyEight has the race listed as “Solid Democratic.”
This story was updated to include Dale Kern’s fundraising total and debate status.
