With just under seven weeks to go until the primary election, one of Katie McGinty’s largest supporters is pitching in.
The influential political group EMILY’s List endorsed McGinty last August, just days into her campaign.
Now, according to Marc Levy of the Associated Press, EMILY’s List is launching $1 million worth of TV ads for the candidate. They’ll begin running in Philadelphia on April 5th and continue through to the April 26th primary.
Earlier this week, McGinty released her own first TV commercial.
All this news comes on the heels of a report from Jonathan Tamari of the Inquirer about the difficulties McGinty has encountered in the Democratic primary. In that piece, Tamari quotes McGinty campaign chair and former Gov. Ed Rendell as saying she’ll need her forces to spend $3.5 million to $4 million in order to win.
While McGinty brushed off those comments, telling the Daily News’ Max Baer that Rendell “meant well”, it set a bar that Republicans will gleefully hold her to.
McGinty is running against former Congressman Joe Sestak and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman in the Senate Democratic primary.

Revolving door’s sexist double standard strikes again. He loves attacking McGinty just for having an impressive career.
Looks like she had 8 jobs in 12 years. Some simultaneous assignments.
Just to clear this up since you are taking a quite impressive number of liberties here
2003-2008 DEP Secretary (Rendell admin) – Until 2007 there were maybe a dozen wells in the entire state and the process was still being studied. Hard to prosecute when you don’t have any substantive information
2010-2013 NRG Energy, Director – they operate power plants, not wells. So not a fracker.
2010-2013 Weston Solutions: Senior VP and Managing Director strategic growth – you do know they are mostly know for positive environmental work in redevelopment and remediation, right? Or do you just copy and paste Fetterman/Toomey talking points?
2009-2014 Element Partners, Operating Partner – the vast majority of their business is in environmentally friendly companies. They diversify. That’s called good business strategy
2009-2015 Iberdrola USA/ Iberdrola Networks – I like that you cut out the full name of the company that expressly doesn’t support your point. Iberdrola RENEWABLES. I think that’s something we as dems are a fan of?
2013-2014 Thar Energy, board member – I don’t know as much about this company, but the top of their webpage says Alternative Energy. I think we like that one too.
2015-2015 Chief of Staff, Governor Tom Wolf – I think he is popular? Or do you support Turzai? You know Wolf endorsed Katie too, right? Along with every democratic pol and group in the country besides 2 guys that didn’t have a choice and the weed pac.
2015-Present U.S. Senate candidate – The only viable candidate in a general election and a crucial part of democrats taking over the senate.
So Emily’s List is in favor of Frackers and Fossil Fuels? This is from StateImpact, and sums up Katie’s record:

Good way to waste $1 million, Emily’s list. I love it!!
you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, despite all the DNCC money in the world.
Susan-
Was the money was spend on mailers or ads that haven’t gone out yet? If so, they are an asset for the campaign waiting to be used.
Delco Observer-
The DCCC, DSCC and PA’s HDCC and SDCC all weigh in on primaries. Sometimes smartly, sometimes not.
DCCC backed Lindy Li (I wish her middle name started with an O so I could just abbreviate her: LOL).
DCCC is backing Golderer over Balchunis.
The general rule/pattern seems to be that they back the candidate with the most money (or potential money).
Katie and Rendell/Schumer/Reid crew have officially slammed the panic button! Look for a Washington DC Democratic Senate Campaign Committee contribution to Emily’s List to mask the DSCC’s improper support of McGinty over Sestak and Fetterman in a contested primary election. She has hit the wall with her own fundraising and Rendell and the Reid/Schumer machine are panicking. A shame to see the DSCC wade into a contested primary race. A shame to see Emily’s List waste their efforts in an election where the candidates are very similar on women’s issues. Better to save the money to use for the real battle to come against Pat Toomey – the only person in this race that the enemy of issues so important to women.
So McGinty spent over $1million in the last few months and DROPS 11 points in the polls? I guess with this extra million she’ll be at 6% this time next month.
BREAKING: U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) endorsed Katie McGinty yesterday.

So, so nice. Bye Joe.
Will Kermit Gosnell be the spokesperson?
So, so desperate.
