George Walker Bush likely did not expect candidates calling on him for help.
Ever since the 43rd President’s approval ratings took a historic dive in his second term, Bush has been considered radioactive.
Most former Presidents, however, are viewed much more positively once they’re out of office (ex. Jimmy Carter). Bush’s numbers have improved somewhat, although the defeat of his brother Jeb in the presidential primary made it likely that he would sit this cycle out as well.
Senator Pat Toomey, though, believes President Bush can do him some good.
According to Al Weaver of the Washington Examiner, Bush will be attending a fundraiser for Toomey in Philadelphia today. Tickets cost $1,000 and $2,500 will get you into the VIP function where you can have your photo taken with the ex-President.
“We are grateful for President Bush’s support of Pat’s leadership in fighting for good-paying jobs and better security for Pennsylvania families,” Toomey spokesman Ted Kwong stated.
McGinty and PA Dems are jumping for joy at this news and believe it will remind voters of one of their main talking points, that Toomey supported Bush’s effort in 2005 to partially privatize Social Security.
“George W. Bush is perhaps the worst president in modern history,” PA Democratic Spokesman Preston Maddock responded. “He tried to privatize Social Security to turn it over to Wall Street, and he left office amidst the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Despite all available evidence that it nearly destroyed the American economy, Senator Toomey is still fighting for the Bush agenda to this day.”

Toomey has done nothing in 6 years. Why give him another 6?
I’m with her.
Ew. Keep that war criminal out of our state. Rotted.
This endorsement is a good move as was the NRA’s “C” rating and lack of endorsement for Toomey. The NRA matter was a nonendorsement endorsement. Meaning by not endorsing Toomey the NRA gave him credibility toward being bipartisan in a highly needed time to be that way. At the same time, when not endorsing Toomey the NRA criticized McGinty which is like getting the best of both worlds–Toomey can claim the bipartisan middle of the road banner and watch the NRA criticize McGinty. Toomey will win. McGinty’s stumbling campaign and her ties to the energy industry will see her lose.
McGinty is desperate. What a LOSER
