PA-Sen: PSEA Endorses McGinty

Katie_McGintyAnother day, another labor endorsement for Katie McGinty.

The former Chief of Staff to Governor Wolf and Democratic Senate candidate scored the backing of the Pennsylvania State Education Association today.

“Katie McGinty is a proven leader and has an unwavering commitment to making quality education available to all of the children of our Commonwealth,” said PSEA President Jerry Oleksiak.  “Working with Governor Wolf, Katie fought for adequate funding for our public schools and expanded access to healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians. Katie is the clear choice for Pennsylvania because she is dedicated to improving education, investing in universal pre-K, protecting funding for our public schools and making college more affordable for our students.”

PSEA represents over 180,000 teachers and other employees throughout the state.

“I’m the 9th of 10 kids, and was the first one to go to a four-year college.  I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance of incredible teachers and a strong education,” said Katie McGinty. “As Senator, I will work to give every child the same opportunity I had and focus on expanding early childhood education and making higher education attainable for all.”

McGinty is running against former Congressman Joe Sestak and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman in the Senate Democratic primary.

  1. This candidate will not support property tax elimination. In fact she will fight to keep property taxes in place as hard as she can. It’s a big NO vote from me.

  2. I love how all of her endorsement announcements include a completely fabricated summary of what she’s done.

  3. 1/2 of PSEA is Republicans. 1/4 of all members may vote. Members obey their leadership at about 60%-40%, sometimes worse one suspects. Therefore, PSEA nets about 3000 to 4000 votes out of 180,000. Rob McCord and others found out how poorly PSEA performs. PSEA needs to stay out of the endorsement game—unless it polls its members. Same for other unions. They have become an appendage of the Dem establishment and the rank/file members don’t like what they see and don’t like being told who to vote for.

  4. So here we have a candidate with no positions on relevant k-12 issues being endorsed by PSEA without any get in terms of issues. Awesome work PSEA.

Or, Sestak wasted twice as much effort as he needed to.

Joe is super-cheap when it comes to spending money, and super-wasteful when it comes to time and human resources. He loves to burn out the endless cycle of young supporters who don’t know any better that he’s using them.

Joe is the opposite of the slogan: Work smarter not harder.

BTW, there are now 4 Dem candidate filed with petitions.

Joe VodVarka is also on the ballot.

VodVarka tried to get on the ballot in 2010, but Sestak challenged him and got VodVarka kicked off.

VodVarka got on the US Senate ballot in 2012, and got 20% of the primary vote against Bob Casey.

Could split the “vote for Joe” people. 🙂

  6. For people that think signing thousands of petitions shows strength of ground game I refer you to Allison Schwartz. She signed 22000 signatures for her failed Governor race. which did not work out very well in the primary election for her. Campaigns are won now not at petition signing.

  7. McGinty filed 6000+ petition signatures, Sestak filed 12,000+

Sestak has twice as good of a ground game. What did Toomey file? Anyone know?

  8. She and Tom Wolf love education so much that they’ve delayed the state budget for over 7 months and forced school districts to borrow money just so they can make payroll. Apparently the teachers union didn’t do its homework.
