PA-Sen: Toomey’s Call for District Judges’ Confirmations Rebuffed

Toomey SadWhile still refusing to budge on holding a confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, Senator Pat Toomey still wants other judges to get a vote, specifically PA judges.

Today, Toomey called on his colleagues in the Senate to confirm Marilyn Horan and Susan Baxter to PA district courts. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, however, refused as there are eight judges in front of Toomey’s pick also waiting for Senate action.

Conservatives had been putting pressure on McConnell to stop confirming judges earlier this year. As a result, the Senate has only approved a handful of judges this year (one of which was Judge Restrepo) and is in no hurry to confirm all those waiting on the list.

Perhaps Senator Toomey was feeling pressure for action since a recent poll had the Senator effectively tied with his challenger, Katie McGinty. That same survey also showed that two-thirds of Pennsylvanians wanted the Senate to hold a vote for Supreme Court nominee Garland.

If that was the case, Toomey’s bid failed as McConnell refused to let the senator skip ahead in line for his nominees.

  4. Toomey is showing leadership and that he can take a stand. So far, Toomey has made all the right moves in this senate race and, in fact, has positioned himself well in this Trump type chaos. Impressive!

  5. If we continue on this slippery slope in Pennsylvania, only convicted felons will have served as jurists. PA’s judiciary is a laughing stock. We got lawbreakers making the rules and judges taking bribes on the side. Just take a look at the PA Gaming Cartel. They go straight to the Supremes when seeking a favorable decision, don’t have to wait their turn in lower courts. Curt Schroder tried to warn everyone.

Watergate will appear as a blip on the radar when the criminal enterprise known as The Courts in PA, state, county and federal, collapse under the mountains of ill-gotten money for which they’ve sold their souls and our constitutional guarantees.

    Gauranteed

  6. This is a fine example of Repub Kabuki Theater, with McConnell providing cover so that Toomey can now say with a straight face “Oh, my, yes – of course I’d never stand in the way of judicial appointments. See what I did to support Horan and Baxter?”

Toomey is a master of this. He did it with gun control, too. As long as he is sure there will be no real result, he is free to take a more moderate position.

I hope that McGinty calls him out on this throughout the campaign. He is a hard-right Wall Street conservative and voters need to hear that early and often.

  7. Toomey again trying to use smoke and mirrors. Toomey believes by asking for lower Judges to be approved (Which he already knows the Party of No will reject) it will relieve the pressure and all the negative publicity he is getting for not giving a vote on the Supreme Court Nomination. Classic OneTerm Pat Toomey .
