PA12: Stacy Garrity Announces Bid for GOP Primary

Stacy Garrity, an Iraq War veteran and businesswoman, announced her candidacy for the Republican primary for the special election in the 12th House District.

Rep. Tom Marino (R-Lycoming) announced he was resigning from Congress last month to take a job in the private sector, but told the Daily Item last week that health issues prompted his resignation.

In a press release about her bid for Congress, Garrity detailed her background in the military plus what she sees as priorities for the district.

“I was blessed to be part of bringing liberty and freedom to people that had never known what that was,” Garrity said in a statement. “Throughout my military career, I worked to show that Americans are not only brave, but compassionate – qualities that stretch from the shores of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan. As a businesswoman, I have focused on creating jobs here northeast Pennsylvania. I am committed to focusing on those same goals in Congress.”

The lifelong Republican and resident of Bradford County won two Bronze Stars and the Legion of Merit during her three deployments in the Middle East and retired from the Army Reserve with the rank of colonel. In the business field, she is the vice president for two divisions of Northeast-based Global Tungsten and is a board member of three industry trade groups.

Garrity specifically focused on securing the border, supporting tax cuts, and fighting to bring jobs to the 12th District in her campaign press release.

The GOP friendly 12th District voted for President Trump by over a 35 point margin in 2016, while Marino was the first Pennsylvania Congressman to endorse his candidacy in the GOP primary. Trump selected Marino to be the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, but was never confirmed, in part due to a Washington Post/60 Minutes report detailing his role pushing a bill that “undermined” the DEA.

Marino had just begun his fifth term in Congress last month.

The special election date is set for May 21, the same day as the Pennsylvania primary.

Each party’s committee will choose their candidate to run in the special election.

  1. Since each party’s committee will choose their candidate to run in the special election, why is she running in a primary? Makes no sense.

    1. Basically, she’s announcing she’s asking for the Republican committees to choose her to be the nominee.

  2. There is no chance for you can be selected as the Republican Nominee for the special election race in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District in 2019 because they need more women like me in congress in 2019, that’s why I’m running
