PA17: Rothfus Gets Boost from Pro-Trump PAC

As one exits, another enters.

America First Action, a Pro-Trump PAC, has invested $726,000 in ad buys for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional race between Reps. Keith Rothfus (R-Allegheny) and Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny).

The PAC, which describes itself as the “primary super PAC dedicated to electing federal candidates who support the agenda of the Trump-Pence administration,” has bought into a number of close congressional races across the nation.

Prior to America First Action entering this race, the National Republican Congressional Committee canceled its ad spending in Pittsburgh that had been set for September 12 to October 8.

“PA-17 is one of the most competitive districts in the country, and we hope to play a substantial role in helping Keith Rothfus cross the finish line in November,” said Alex Titus, Communications Specialist for America First Action. “This spending is a significant first step and sizeable investment in helping Republicans hold the House — and Pennsylvania will also be important to our 2020 efforts.”

The Lamb campaign is using the ad buy in a push for fundraising.

The fundraising email from Lamb’s campaign details the ad buy while citing an article from City Paper and described the donation as “dark money support from a far-right super PAC.”

“Since January, special interests and super PACs have spent millions trying to elect someone who will work for them,” said Abby Nassif Murphy, Lamb for Congress Campaign Manager. “Conor has made it clear he works only for the people he represents, not corporate PACs or any other special interest.”

Lamb’s first television ad of the general election cycle, released last week, details fighting against outside special interest groups.

Rothfus has released two television ads thus far for the general election cycle. His first ad focuses on protecting Medicare and Social Security, while his second ad touts fighting for affordable health insurance.

Update: This article was updated with a response from Lamb’s Campaign Manager.

  1. Conor Lamb could become Speaker of the House, the Democrats at least in Pennsylvania have selected and run very attractive Candidates. Now we await the Turnouts?

    1. Obviously you haven’t been paying attention to the direction the Democrat party is going. Lamb is paying this shell game with the voters of the 17th saying he is some sort of independent/moderate voice. He has voted with the liberal Democrats most of the time and will continue to do so if elected. That’s how this works, folks. If the Democrats take the house, Pelosi (or someone to her left) will be elected Speaker of the House.

      1. It will be Pelosi which I think is a huge mistake for the Dems. They need new leadership. She has been there, done that. They need to move forward.

  2. The ads from R’s where they claim to be fighting for affordable health insurance are an absolute joke.

      1. Very true. I am not defending Obamacare which was an awful piece of legislation. However, the R’s solution was to throw gasoline on a fire. They had a chance to look really good and come up with a proposal that was superior. They did neither and failed in a spectacular way.

  3. Wow. That is going to hurt in another race where the R’s would have a chance. A misallocation of resources. I guess the Trumpers are no longer saying that Lamb is one of them. LOL.

  4. Sorry but no amount of money will save Rothfus. Trump’s support couldn’t help Saccone in a district that he won by more than 20 points. What makes him think his involvement will mean anything in a district that’s more favorable to a D, especially on the heels of Lamb’s impressive win. Dream on, Trumpies.
