The Chester County GOP has officially announced its endorsement of Ryan Costello in his campaign for the House seat of Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District.
“I appreciate the confidence that the committee people have placed in me, and I want to especially thank Chairman Val DiGiorgio for his leadership of the committee.” said Costello. “Just as important, I appreciate all of the hard work they do year in year out to help communicate the Republican ideals of fiscal responsibility and limited government to voters. Their support and dedication is going to be a key factor in the weeks and months to come as this campaign heats up.”
Currently, Costello serves as the Chairman of the Chester County Board of Commissioners.
The 6th District seat went up for grabs when Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Chester) announced in early January that he would not seek re-election. This ignited a sudden rumor mill of who would attempt to take his place.
So far, the Republicans continue to stand united under Costello in his campaign. The Democrats have come up with two candidates for a primary: Dr. Manan Trivedi, who is embarking on his third attempt to run for the 6th District seat, and Mike Parrish, who was the only Democratic candidate before Gerlach’s announcement.
According to the Cook Political Report, the 6th District weighs in at R+2. While Gerlach won his election with an impressive 57.19% of the vote in 2012, Mitt Romney didn’t fare quite so well and carried the district with only 51.32% of the vote. To make a long story short, the Democrats could very well have quite the opportunity on their hands within Pennsylvania’s 6th District.
