PA8: Cartwright Raises $290K in Q2

A slightly better second quarter.

Rep. Matt Cartwright’s (D-Lackawanna) campaign raised close to $290,000 from the beginning of April to the end of June, while spending $120,000 during this time period. His second quarter haul is close to $10,000 more than the previous quarter

The fourth term Democrat has now raised just over $580,000 in the election cycle-to-date

Like the 1st quarter, the campaign raised funds from several joint fundraising committees from the beginning of April to the end of June, including contributions from ActBlue and a contribution from PAC to the Future, run by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Cartwright’s campaign entered the month of July with just under $820,000 cash on hand. In comparison to this point in his previous bid in July 2017, he’s raised $25,000 less in the election cycle-to-date and has $230,000 less in cash on hand. Despite trailing in those categories while comparing this point in his previous race, he did raise close to $60,000 more this quarter than he did from April 2017 to the end of June 2017

Cartwright won by close to 10 points in his previous bid over a self funding GOP businessman, John Chrin, who loaned his campaign over $1M during the 2018 campaign. Cartwright’s campaign raised $2.4M in the previous election cycle, with $1M of that coming from various joint fundraising committees.

Cartwright is one of three Pennsylvania Democrats being targeted by the NRCC’s initial 2020 list, along with Reps. Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny) and Susan Wild (D-Lehigh). According to the Allentown Morning Call, Wild raised the most of the three in the most recent fundraising period, while Cartwright led the way in the first three months of the year.

Cartwright is still the only candidate to have officially filed with the FEC to run in the Northeast Pennsylvania district. The Times Leader reported last month that former Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Luzerne) has not ruled out a bid for the seat.

  1. I heard that Mr. Chrin is still pretending he lives in Monroe County. Anyone have photos of his mansion in NJ? Is all the renovation done? His wife still isn’t registered at his Paradise Township address. Just him and his daughter. Maybe she’s registered at one of the other 2 houses in Pennsylvania.

  2. This is the reality. The newly designed district Cartwright is in has been drawn much to the dismay of King Scarnati and His Majesty Turzai by the Pa Supreme Court. It is a Dem seat. There could be a strange turn of events that happened years ago with Lou Barletta causing an “R” victory but with Trumpmania in full bloom the likelihood of that happening is similar to the Mets winning the World Series this year. Ain’t gonna happen. If some wealthy “R” wants to throw their money around go for it but you will not win with Trump taking up all the attention.

  3. He could lose in a certain environment but it would have to be with a backlash against a Dem POTUS. Obviously, that isn’t the situation right now.

  4. The GOP is still looking for another sucker like Chrin to put up his own money to chase the foolish prospect of ousting the popular Cartwright
