Pat Toomey Wins, Joe Pitts Earns Honorable Mention on Conservative Scorecard

By Brittany Hundzynski, Contributing Writer

Senator Pat Toomey received the highest grade and surpassed all Pennsylvania members of Congress on a vote scorecard created by Heritage Action, a cousin of the Heritage Foundation.

Toomey scored 87 percent, making him one of the 13 senators scoring above 85 percent on Heritage-approved issues such as voting “no” on the debt limit deal and “yes” on the cut, cap and balance plan. Rep. Joe Pitts took a close second with 83 percent.

The highest-scoring member of Congress was South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, with 99 percent.

The group states that “Heritage Action’s new scorecard allows Americans to see whether their Members of Congress are fighting for freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society” (read: economic and social issues alike). “The scorecard is comprehensive, covering the full spectrum of conservatism, and includes legislative action on issues both large and small.”

Unremarkably, Democrats are scored poorly. U.S. Sen Bob Casey scored 0% percent.

Blue Dog Dems Mark Critz and Jason Altmire are in line with the most moderate Democrats having a close tie between 20 and 19 percent, with Tim Holden close behind with 14 percent,

  1. You know it’s based on Casey being up for re-election when Brady, Fatah and Schwartz get more conservative scores.

I think the real “Heritage” is phony scoring.

  2. Let’s be aware, people: Heritage is funded 100% by the Koch Brothers and two of their friends, so this has NOTHING to do with true conservative ideals. This is all about maximizing the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few dozen greedy pigs – and Toomey is obviously very good at serving his Rich Masters. Way to go, Patty!
