Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski woke to some good news this morning: of all the prospective Democratic candidates for Governor, he was the second strongest against Tom Corbett according to Quinnipiac.

Former Congressman Joe Sestak lead Corbett 47% to 38% in that poll, followed by Pawlowski who beat Corbett 44% to 38%.

But he is focused on the City of Allentown, Pawlowski said in an unsolicited press release from his campaign consultant.

“When asked about his potential run for Governor,” the release from Pawlowski’s campaign consultant says, setting up the quote below. It does not specify who asked.

“I am honored to be considered and I’m excited that this latest poll shows that the people of Pennsylvania view me as problem solver and would support me as their next Governor,” Pawlowski said in the statement. “However, I am currently focused on serving the residents of Allentown as Mayor and continuing the great work that my administration has started.”

How much the poll means for Pawlowski, as opposed to [anyone but Corbett] is debatable. 87% of poll respondents said they hadn’t heard enough about Pawlowski to form an opinion – the second highest of the 8 candidates polled. The number is 83% among Democrats.

Pawlowski is unopposed for re-election this year.
