Peduto in for Pittsburgh Mayor; Fitzgerald Endorses Him

Bill Peduto

2013 isn’t slated to be a blockbuster year for Pa. politics, but one race worth watching is the Pittsburgh mayoral primary. Today, City Councilman Bill Peduto filed paperwork to challenge Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and got an instant endorsement from Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

“Today, Bill Peduto filed the paperwork necessary to make him eligible to run for Mayor of Pittsburgh,” Fitzgerald wrote in an email to supporters. “Although he has not officially announced that he will run, I am honored to be the first to donate the maximum amount allowed by law to his campaign.”

It’s not a surprise to see Peduto in; he’s been less than subtle about his interest. In fact, a public poll conducted back in January included his name in the running. City Controller Michael Lamb is considered another likely contended, and Pa. Auditor General Jack Wagner, himself a former City Councilman (and state Senator).

(That poll showed Ravenstahl at 32 percent, Wagner at 26, Peduto at 22 and Lamb at 20).

  1. If there’s one candidate that hates constituents more than Steelerstahl, its Bill Potato. Hes Lukes dream opponent. Peduto will raise no money, attract no support beyond the East End, and offer no new ideas. Go away, bill. Isn’t there a blog you should be writing for?

  2. Hasn’t this guy run and lost twice already? Is the third time really the charm? I like Lamb in this one. Clearly though, Steelerstahl has got to go.
