House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will participate in a college affordability and post-secondary career opportunity panel at Delaware County Community College with Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-Montgomery) and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Delaware). The event begins at 9 AM tomorrow.
“Our district is reflective of the challenges we face in our education system,” Scanlon said. “From inadequate funding for our public schools, to over twenty diverse higher education institutions, including our country’s first HBCU, trade and technical schools, community colleges, and public and private universities, the voices of our district and our students are critical in this discussion. I am grateful to Speaker Pelosi for her leadership on this issue and desire to hear from our community.”
The visit also comes at a time when the calls for proceeding with impeachment inquiries grows in Pennsylvania’s Democratic Congressional delegation. Dean and Scanlon have issued statements this week calling for impeachment inquiries and have hit the national media circuit explaining their decision. Rep. Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia) is the other Democrat in the delegation to call for impeachment proceedings as well.
Dean said in a statement this week that President Trump has left them “no choice” in making these calls.
“The President’s outrageous disregard for the law – his cruel and constant corruption – cannot go unanswered,” Dean said in a statement. “It will not go unanswered. The American people deserve the truth on the President’s ongoing obstruction of justice, corruption, and abuses of power. It is the right time for the committee to launch a formal impeachment inquiry – in parallel with ongoing oversight – to give that to them.”
Pelosi has resisted calls within her caucus of proceeding with impeachment as she describes it as “very divisive” and added that we’re “not at that place” yet as of today.
Last week Scanlon, a vice chairwoman of the House Judiciary Committee, led a public reading of the Mueller report which lasted almost 12 hours.

The thing which motivates all of us whether it be Democrat or Republican is the American dream. That ideal that says with hard work and ambition we can do the impossible and achieve our goals. There is no question it is under assault by the crushing student loan debt which in Pennsylvania is a problem too. There is no such thing as a Republican student loan or a Democratic student loan but there are devastating student loan debts robbing our young of their dreams and saddling these people with massive debts. There has got to be a better way to promote higher education than having our young become lifetime servants to this weighty student loan debt.
“So VERY Little, and Way Too Late”
I #Work here, and all I can say is that th #Democrats, #Republicans, and #Trump have all #Destroyed #PublicEducation for the last generation and continue to this very day. All they have done is #Prevented #Good #Teachers like #Me from fixing it, while they have absolutely #No #Clue what they are talking about.
Through one measly visit that won’t do anything, they #Dare try to come across as saviors . . .
