Pence to Fundraise for Barletta in Philly

Vice President Mike Pence will be bringing his talents to the GOP hot spot, Union League on July 23 to host a fundraiser for U.S. Senate candidate Lou Barletta, first reported by WHYY’s Dave Davies.

This visit comes just a month after Pence’s previous visit to Philadelphia, which was met with large protests from activists and some local elected officials alike.

Barletta’s opponent for the seat in the Senate, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey’s, campaign took a jab at their current fundraising advantage over their GOP challenger.

“Given that Congressman Barletta is more than $26 million short of his $30 million fundraising goal, it’s safe to say that he needs all help he can get,” said Casey campaign spokesman Max Steele. “Hopefully this time he won’t literally put the room to sleep like his previous Philadelphia fundraiser. Either way, the Casey campaign will continue to ensure Pennsylvania’s workers, seniors, and middle class families know the truth about Congressman Barletta’s radical agenda.”

State Representative Brian Sims (D-Philadelphia) grabbed the spotlight of this previous visit by tweeting a picture of himself giving the middle finger with the following statement.

“OFFICIAL WELCOME: @MikePenceVP let me be the first to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love and to my District! We’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, & Immigrant. So…get bent, then get out!
