Perry Balks at January 6 Committee Subpoena

CNN is reporting that Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) has formally objected to being subpoenaed by the House Select Committee investigating the events surrounding January 6.

The committee had subpoenaed Perry, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). earlier this month.

Perry and Biggs were asked to sit for depositions today but filed letters with the committee objecting to the subpoenas.

CNN obtained a letter from Jordan, questioning the constitutionality of the subpoena and creating a list of demands that he expects to be met for he would consider appearing.

Perry, chair of the House Freedom Caucus, was the first person to connect former President Donald Trump with Jeffrey Clark, a top official in the DOJ who was sympathetic to Trump’s desire to overturn the election results.

Cassidy Hutchinson, who worked under Mark Meadows when he was former Trump’s chief of staff, told the panel investigating the Capitol attack that she saw Meadows incinerate documents after a meeting in his office with Perry, according to reports in POLITICO.

This would not be the first time that Meadows and Perry have opted to conceal discussions. The select committee revealed that, in a Dec. 2020 text message exchange the committee included in an April court filing, Perry told Meadows he had “just sent you something on Signal,” referring to the encrypted messaging app popular with journalists and government officials.

    1. Congressman Scott Perry should never appear before this Phony Committee that wouldn’t seat the real Republican appointees.

  1. Scott Perry should not show up as he committed no crimes. The GOP is the Law and Order party! Dumbcrats refuse to follow the rules of normal procedure and are hypocrites. Dumbcrats are all hypocrites. And liars. And repugnant haters.

  2. Who chats on secretive apps and burns meeting notes? Criminals. Only Criminals. Scott Perry is a treasonous Criminal. When he is arrested in August, that seat will flip.

  3. Good for you, Scott! Don’t dignify this inquisition. Payback is going to be a bitch!

  4. Scott Perry, why not show up and take the 5th if you want to hide your crimes? I thought GOP was the Law and Order party. So you have to follow the rules of normal procedure or risk being a hypocrite. GOP are all hypocrites. And liars. And repugnant haters.

    1. Notice the Phony gulag has nothing to say about the Criminal Perry. Maybe Perry IS the phony gulag?

  5. Perry violated his Oath of Office by participating in an Insurrection. He is no longer a valid member of Congress and should be barred from entering the House Chamber and any votes he casts should be thrown out.

  6. I’m sure that if R’s subpoenaed a Democratic member of Congress, Perry would support the Dem to object. Right?

  7. For a member of Congress to not show regard for the hallowed traditions of this body is a bad sign.
