Philly Deputy Mayor to Challenge Brady

Philadelphia Deputy Mayor Nina Ahmad announced she will be challenging Congressman Bob Brady (D-Philadelphia) in next year’s Democratic primary.

According to City & State, Ahmad will resign her position Thursday to announce her run the same day.

Ahmad is the Deputy Mayor of Public Engagement for the Kenney administration.  She is the co-founder of a community development firm JNA Capital.

Brady is currently involved in an FBI investigation into his campaign allegedly paying former primary opponent Jimmie Moore to end his primary challenge.

Democrats Lindy Li and Omar Woodard.are both considering runs against Brady as well

Brady’s campaign did not respond to a comment request by City & State.

  1. It will be great to get rid of Brady and his gerrymandering of most of the Democratic base in Delco to Philly. He might be a good county chair, but he is a horrible representative

  2. Bob Brady was a guy who chased the blacks out of neighborhood for many years with his boy Popeye and friends. Then the hypocrite bully plays 2-face today. What a sham. Big mouth favor mongrul. #makephillygreatagain Retire Bob ! Go hang out at Johhny’s Place

  3. Congressman Brady has been a good, old fashioned, representative and worked hard for the city but times have changed. People don’t want “machine” politics any more. There is a rising movement to open the primaries and another to set term limits to change the political culture. I appreciate all he has done but it is time for him to retire and let the next generation take office.

  4. It will be nice to have a Congressman with more education than a High School diploma from 1963.

Nina has a PhD in Chemistry and a post-Doc in Molecular Genetics. Given the GOP war on science, we need highly educated Dems to combat them.

  5. The smart move is to keep this a two person race, or to bring in a third candidate who draws from Brady’s base.

  6. I am sure by the end there will be a long list which will include other Kenney Loyalists. The more the merrier for Brady
