PHL-15: Abraham Changes Stance on Pot Decriminalization

marijuana_leafWell, that was fast.

Just last month in an interview for Citified, Lynne Abraham reaffirmed that she is “already on the record about the decriminalization of marijuana. I’m against it, especially for kids.”

Now, however, she is telling the Inquirer that during the past month, she has spoken “to numerous residents, health experts, civic organizations, community leaders and many others knowledgeable and impacted by marijuana issues in our City,” which has changed her stance on the decriminalization of marijuana.

As a result, Jim Kenney, who is expected to announce his candidacy for Mayor of Philadelphia today, accused Abraham of flip-flopping.

Abraham, though, asserts that this shows her ability to reach out for new information and properly adapt.

“Seeking information and attaining new levels of understanding benefits everyone and are the hallmarks of responsible, progressive leadership,” she stated. “As a result, because of the ongoing conversations regarding marijuana that I have had, I support decriminalization of possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use by adults. I would not support decriminalization for children and adolescents.”

  1. It’s time to legalize. Just look at colorado. The revenue is off the charts. What mayoral candidate is going to be actually progressive on this issue?

  2. See what happens when you run for “high” office, you’ll say and do a-n-y-t-h-in-g to get elected.

  3. Funny how she “adapts” after realizing that the public “adapted” along time ago. This is nothing but a ridiculous attempt by Abraham to stay relevant in this race.
