Another Philly mayoral candidate is hitting the airwaves.
Judge Nelson Diaz released his first television commercial today.
The ad, titled “Voices”, will be featured on broadcast TV through election day and will presumably be the campaign’s only spot.
“Growing up in poverty, he was told ‘No’, ‘Can’t’, ‘It’s impossible’ but he found a way,” the narrator begins over childhood photos of the candidate.
Jump to Diaz’s career resume as Judge and member of the Clinton Administration. Then the ad transitions to casting front-runners Anthony Williams and Jim Kenney as negative voices who say respectively, “we can’t fix schools without vouchers” and “you can’t stop police brutality.”
“‘No’, ‘Can’t’, ‘It’s impossible’. Nelson Diaz, he’s heard those voices before,” the narrator concludes. “On May 19th, let’s hear yours.”
Diaz isn’t currently considered in the top-tier of candidates (though it’s difficult to properly formulate tiers when there hasn’t been any independent polling). So we’ll have to wait to see whether his half-bio spot, half-negative ad strategy works in capturing the attention and support of the voters.
