Pippy Reappointed Chairman of Senate Law and Justice Committee

Harrisburg – State Sen. John Pippy (R-37) was reappointed the Chairman of the Senate Law and Justice Committee as the 2011-2012 legislative Session begins.

The Law and Justice Committee has primary oversight for legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the Pennsylvania State Police.

“I’m looking forward to working with fellow members to meet the challenges that lie ahead for the Committee and the Commonwealth,” said Pippy. “With deliberation and public input, the Committee will help craft legislation and policies that best serve the people of Pennsylvania.”

The Senator said that in the coming year the Committee will hold public hearings on privatization of state liquor stores.

“It is critical the Legislature understand how the state liquor system affects businesses and individuals and when considering privatizing liquor sales it is as much a matter of accountability as it is a fiscal issue,” said Pippy. Other issues to be considered are increased alcohol enforcement measures, the direct shipment of wine to Pennsylvania consumers and the three-tiered distribution system for malt and brewed beverages.

Senator Pippy is in his second full term in the Pennsylvania Senate. The 37th District covers portions of Allegheny County and Washington County.
