Pitts Appointed Subcommittee on Health Chairman

Washington– Today, at the House Energy and Commerce Committee organizational meeting, Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) was appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health.

The Subcommittee on Health includes jurisdiction over Medicare, Medicaid, the FDA, and the new health care law. The subcommittee will play a critical role in advancing Republican legislation to replace Obamacare.

Rep. Pitts’ statement follows:

“Today, the Energy and Commerce Committee appointed me as Chairman of the Health Subcommittee. It’s an honor to be entrusted with this responsibility by my colleagues. I’ve already started working with the members of the subcommittee to map out our agenda for the year.

“Our top priority is going to be advancing better solutions to our health care problems. Obamacare makes things worse by centralizing government control. The problem isn’t lack of bureaucratic control. It is the lack of competition in both the government and private health sectors. In both cases, it is the government that is restricting competition and choice.”
