PITTS, RUNNING SCARED, DUCKS VOTERS

PITTS, RUNNING SCARED, DUCKS VOTERS

Congressman Joe Pitts has cancelled a third face-to-face event with Lois Herr, his Democratic opponent in Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District.  The Lancaster County League of Women Voters today notified the Herr campaign that Rep. Pitts has cancelled a scheduled candidates’ night at the Willow Valley Community on October 13th.  League President Susan Leinberger reported that Pitts will not attend, and refused to send a surrogate or participate via video feed.

“Debates and forums are job interviews with the people, and Joe Pitts needs to show up,” Herr said.  “With the polls showing us surging and Pitts deeply unpopular in the district, he is clearly running scared, and it’s just a shame that he has so little respect for the people who pay his salary.”

Pitts has also advised the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce and the Chester County League of Women Voters that he will not attend a lunch-hour candidates’ forum on Friday, October 8th.  Instead, he will send a constituent service staffer — a government employee — from his Lancaster office.

Further, Pitts has cancelled an appearance at Congregation Shaarai Shomayim in Lancaster on October 24th after learning that Lois would be there that day.  Instead, he has changed his appearance to a different date, conditioned on Herr not attending.

Congressman Pitts took time to visit a retirement community in East Hempfield Township on September 27th to discuss his hobby of oil painting.  Herr campaign manager Mac Booker  commented that “If Congressman Pitts has more time to talk about recreational painting than to discuss the issues facing our district, I’m sure the voters can arrange to give him more time to pursue his hobby.”
