The Herr 2010 campaign’s research into Congressman Pitts’ voting record led to speculation that the Congressman is not seeking to be hailed as a hero of education.  Just a wild guess…
 
Vote #24:  H.R. 3221, the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009
 
This far-reaching bill provided funding and guidance for many forms of education, from early childhood to post-graduate.  It funded Pell Grants for college students, indexed to the Consumer Price Index plus one percent; provided for College Access and Completion Grants; gave preference to veterans, dislocated workers and children of fallen heroes; and provided grants for repair of public and charter schools damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Ike.  And it barred any of its funds from Congressional earmarks.  There were dozens of reasons to support this bill, but
 
Pitts votes NO.
 
The bill passed by a vote of 253-171.  Fer cryin’ out loud, the bill even defunded ACORN, the citizen group that Republicans loved to demonize.  But No means No.
