Politico: Fitzpatrick’s Race Shifts From Leans GOP to Toss-Up

The race in the 1st Congressional District is now a Toss-Up, according to the final Election Forecast from the analysts at Politico.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick’s (R-Bucks) reelection bid against Democratic challenger Christina Finello has shifted from Leans Republican to Toss-Up, in the Forecast updated on Monday morning.

“GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick survived the 2018 blue wave against a weak opponent,” writes Steven Shepard. “He again faces an underfunded Democrat, but the top of the ticket is dragging him down in Bucks County.”

The race in PA1 had previously been labeled as Leans Republican since April 2020, although it was introduced as a Toss-Up in their initial Election Forecast in Nov. 2019

Fitzpatrick, who is currently serving his second term in Congress in a district that narrowly went to Sec. Hillary Clinton in 2016, bested Democrat Scott Wallace by just over 2.5 points in 2018.

Politico rates two congressional races in Pennsylvania as Toss-Ups in their final Election Forecast – Fitzpatrick’s reelection bid for the 1st Congressional District and Rep. Scott Perry’s (R-York) race in the 10th District against Democratic challenger Eugene DePasquale.

The Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections all have the race in PA1 as Leans Republican.

  1. As of 4:30 am Fitzpatrick has a 27 point lead.

Can you stop quoting these people who claim the race is a toss up yet?

  2. Remember Kendra Horn in Oklahoma City who pulled off a victory no one expected in 2018. I think you’ll see Finello pull off the upset due to the politically toxic nature of the Trump candidacy in the suburbs of Bucks County along with Finello being a good candidate.

  3. Fitzpatrick got elected in the first place because people thought they were voting for his brother.
