Politico: Pennsylvania’s Democratic face-off

Dan Hirschorn of Politico reports that it is now very likely that incumbent Democrats Mark Critz and Jason Altmire will be forced to run against each other in a Democratic primary next year because of redistricting.  Many experts in the state believed that this would happen early on because of how the population of Pennsylvania is moving forward east as reported by PoliticsPa earlier this morning.

“It could leave a very bitter taste in our mouths, given that we have two elected incumbents that we’d have to choose from,” Jack Hanna, the state party’s southwest caucus chairman, told POLITICO. “Both of them are great guys. It’s a shame that one of them might have to be taken out.”

Critz is believed to be a slight favorite in the primary according to the article because of Altmire alienating many Democrats in the area, especially in the labor community due to his vote against President Obama’s health care bill.  However Altmire does have experience on his side being in his third term.  Critz was elected last year in a special election to fill the seat of the late John Murtha.

  1. The guy that did this assessment has no clue about the Pittsburgh area, or even simple numbers about how this paint by numbers redistricting map was put together.
