Big bucks follow the vice president and speaker of the House, apparently.

A Monday fundraiser in Philadelphia featuring Vice President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelsoi (D-Calif.) netted Democratic congressional candidate Bryan Lentz and the DCCC $250,000, Lentz’s campaign confirmed.

The news was first reported by Williams Bender of the Philadelphia Daily News.

State Rep. Lentz is set to face Republican Pat Meehan in what is arguably the state’s most competitive congressional race. Both men are trying to succeed outgoing Democratic incumbent Joe Sestak in the 7th Congressional District.

The fundraising boost — Lentz will receive $125,000 of the $250,000 raised Monday — comes at a good time for the Democrat. Meehan, an ex-U.S. attorney, has become the race’s early favorite based in part on his prodigious fundraising. According to reports released last week, he has raised $1.65 million in his campaign thus far, including $500,000 in the second quarter.

Lentz, who kept up with Meehan’s fundraising early on but has sagged behind lately, raised only $270,000 in the second quarter.

It’s not the first big-ticket fundraiser of the race. Late last year, Meehan hosted two fundraisers with then newly New Jersey governor-elect Chris Christie that netted the candidate more than $250,000.
