Independent candidate Tom Lingenfelter’s placement on the ballot in the 8th Congressional District was challenged Monday.

His inclusion on the ballot has been the source of some controversy in a race that features Democratic incumbent Patrick Murphy and Republican challenger Mike Fitzpatrick, a rematch of the two men’s 2006 battle. Two former Murphy interns helped Lingenfelter on the ballot, although his placement there hasn’t generated nearly the heat as seen in the 7th District race with third-party candidate Jim Schneller.

The 8th District independent would appear positioned to siphon votes from the Republican Fitzpatrick.
