For Democratic gubernatorial nominee Dan Onorato, the message of the day is consolidation, consolidation, consolidation.

Speaking at a press conference this morning at the University of Pennsylvania (or Drexel?) Science Center, Onorato discussed his plan to bring jobs back to Pennsylvania, frequently emphasizing that state government programs require consolidation to channel more funds towards small businesses and start-ups.

Onorato addressed specific points of his plan for job creating that focus on establishing a climate in which small businesses can succeed.  Touting programs designed to encourage entrepreneurship and business innovation, Onorato said that he plans to boost export opportunities across the state and attract foreign companies to Pennsylvania.  Paralleling Gov. Rendell’s continued push for education funding throughout state budget negotiations, Onorato stressed that Pennsylvania’s future workforce must be prepared for those high-paying, innovative jobs.

Building on what has quickly become a campaign platform built on government reform, Onorato brought most questions back the theme of the day, stressing that by consolidating, sharing services, and streamlining government operations, Pennsylvania can save money in Harrisburg.

“We need to revamp the corporate tax structure, ensure that regulatory agencies are more business friendly and respond in a timely manner and maximize state dollars,” he said.
