Sixth District Congressional candidate Doug Pike raised nearly $460,000 in the fourth fiscal quarter, campaign finance reports show, giving him $1.1 on hand to end 2009.
Pike, a former Philadelphia Inquirer editorial writer, now has 10 times as much cash on hand as his Democratic rival, physician Manan Trivedi, leading his campaign to tout it is the best positioned to defeat Republican incumbent Jim Gerlach in the fall. Trivedi’s campaign had about $100,000 on hand to end 2009.
“The Democrats need a nominee who has put together a strong enough campaign to hold Gerlach accountable,” said Pike campaign manager Andrew Eldredge-Martin in a statement. “No other Democratic candidate has demonstrated an ability to run a competitive campaign.”
More than half of pike’s fundraising has come from his personal fortune. The candidate has contributed about $960,000 to his effort, roughly $340,000 in the fourth fiscal quarter alone.
