Chalk up another endorsement to Manan Trivedi.

The 6th Congressional District Democrat received the support of Berks County state Senator Michael O’Pake on Tuesday, his campaign said.

“Over the years I have gotten to know the people of this region and I understand their needs,” O’Pake said in a statement. “So when I was deciding who I was going to support as my next congressman, it was important for that person to be from my district and have that shared understanding of our people.

“It’s clear. That person is Manan Trivedi,” O’Pake said. “From his comprehensive approach for job creation to healthcare, Manan brings the fresh approach and change this district needs.”

The senator’s support comes after a day of mixed news for Trivedi, who faces former Philadelphia Inquirer editorial writer Doug Pike in the Democratic primary. On the same day Reading Mayor Tom McMahon and Berks County Commissioner Kevin Barnhardt announced they switched their endorsements from Pike to Trivedi, campaign finance reports revealed Pike had about 10 times as much cash on hand as the Iraq war veteran.

Pike still retains the support of the southeast’s congressional delegation and an array of unions and local Democrats.
