Last week it was Dan Onorato. This week, it’s Anthony Williams.

Let the ad wars begin.

The Democratic Philadelphia state senator’s gubernatorial campaign will debut its first TV ads Wednesday in all media markets except Philadelphia, according to Dawn Chavous, Williams’ campaign manager. They will hit the air in the state’s largest media market early next week, and the campaign plans to keep them running through the May 18 primary, she said.

The ad blitz will feature two spots, each 30 seconds long. A campaign source said each focuses on introducing Williams’ “core” issues, such as his support for school choice, job creation and cracking down on illegal guns.

The ads come a week after Onorato, Allegheny County’s chief executive, unveiled his first spots. They began airing in the Philadelphia media market and were the first of its kind from any statewide campaign this year.

The other two Democratic candidates, Auditor General Jack Wagner and Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel, have yet to hit the air.

Not surprisingly, Williams and Onorato appear poised to be the two most well-funded Democratic candidates. Onorato has $6.7 million on hand after raising about $900,000 this year. Williams, who entered the race only in February, has already amassed $1.7 million.

His candidacy, once viewed as a long-shot, has gained steamed in recent weeks with the endorsements of Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and former state Senator Connie Williams.

One Response

  1. Joe Hoeffel is not going to have a good spring. He will be crushed in the primary and it will become widely known that he partnered up with a thief in the Montco Commissioners office. Further re-enforcing his reputation as an opportunist and a bad one at that. Had he been home attending to the job he was elected to do, maybe he could have kept Jim Matthews from stealing the taxpapers blind.
