A career in political office almost requires a robust ego, but it seems Bill DeWeese’s ego is on a whole other level. His staff’s now revealed grand jury testimony tells of arranging his dinner dates, making sure he was stocked with condoms, throwing away his trash even though there was a waste basket right there, getting small coffees in big cups, and tons of other idiosyncratic personal requests big and small. Who knew DeWeese was such a diva?

The third ranking Republican in the state senate, Jane Orie , is having her own problems these days. Last November an intern in her Pittsburgh office reported to the Allegheny County DA that political calls were being made from there on behalf of her sister, Joan Orie Melvin, who was running for State Supreme Court. Now a grand jury has launched an investigation. Ratted out by an intern. Ouch!

Who sends out a negative holiday card? Apparently Joe Sestak does. In his Seasons Greetings email to supporters, Sestak blasted Arlen Specter over the economy, his voting record, and aligned him with the ever-unpopular George W. Bush. Taking just one day off from the usual mud-slinging for tidings of comfort and joy? Not Joe Sestak’s style…

Ah, the Table Games Bill…it looks like it may soon be freed from the same type of partisan mire that held the budget up for so long, but it’s also loaded with WAMS (walking around money). Come on, guys. How do they expect to pass a Codified Citizen’s Alliance?

Every few months it seems another potential candidate for something comes along who just can’t dismount from the fence. The latest is State Senator David Argall who has been “weighing the pros and cons” of taking on the popular Congressman Tim Holden. He says he’ll make a decision in January. A run against Tim Holden will be hard enough, even harder with what seems to be Argall’s lackluster decision-making skills.
