Sixth district Congressional candidate Doug Pike released another wave of endorsements Monday morning when former Lieutenant Governor Mark Singel and U.S. Rep. and Philly party boss Bob Brady publicly declared their support. Is there anybody left to back Democratic insurgent candidate Manan Trivedi, besides former state Senator Connie Williams? Or will Pike continue his slow roll-out of public support to include every major Democratic official in southeast Pennsylvania? So far, US Reps. Fattah, Murphy, Schwartz, and a wide array of local reps and unions are on board with the former member of the Inquirer editorial board.
Is this week the one when lawmakers finally settle on a tax rate for table games and actually end the budget? The two sides are just percentage points apart on this issue, but have been for weeks without any results. Are we already seeing fallout from Democratic leadership’s broken budget promise to their Senate Republican brethren?
Maybe this week we’ll get the final word on whether an array of Harrisburg lawmakers decide to seek higher office. Nobody seems to think Minority Whip Mike Turzai is running in the 4th District, but he still hasn’t publicly ruled it out. Berks County Rep. Sam Rohrer has strongly indicated he’s running for governor, but again, hasn’t issued a definitive final word. While Rep. Greg Vitali has said he won’t decide if he’s running in the 7th Congressional District until after the election, former Republican state Revenue Secretary Howard Cohen is considering a campaign in the 6th District.
Rep. Joe Sestak’s campaign for governor continues, but is his strategy changing? So far, Sestak has appealed to the Democratic base as the liberal in the primary competition, but is his campaign moving towards the center? Speaking with PoliticsPA’s Alex Roarty and The Morning Call’s John Micek, Sestak argued that he is a better general election candidate than Specter, and Philadelphia Weekly wonders how progressive he really is.
