Poll: Obama’s Numbers Slipping in PA

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

One in two Pennsylvania voters think that President Barack Obama does not deserve a second term, according to the latest poll from Susquehanna Polling and Research (PDF).

50 percent of voters think it’s time for someone new, while 44 percent believe Obama has done well enough to deserve re-election.

The same percentage – 50 – believe that the economy in Pennsylvania has gotten worse in the past 12 months. Only 15 percent believe things have gotten better.

Voters disapprove of the President’s performance by a margin of 48 to 41 percent, a decline from his 45% job approval score in SR&P’s March poll.

The drop in his job approval can primarily be attributed to a decrease in support among Democrats, who now approve by a 61-30 margin compared to a stronger 69-21 ratio in March (a 17 point swing). By comparison, his job approval among both Republicans and Independents is virtually unchanged from March.

Among those who say the economy has gotten worse only 31% approve of the job he is doing, while 61% say they disapprove. Conversely, voters who say the economy is in better shape today than it was 12 months ago approve of the President’s job performance by a solid 71-22 margin, while those who say it has remained about the same are divided 43-41.

This statewide IVR poll was conducted May 30 – June 2 with 1,406 registered voters. Only voters with prior vote history in general elections 2010, 2009, 2008 and/or 2007 were contacted. Results are sometimes statistically weighted for key demographics (geography, party affiliation, gender, age, etc). The margin of error for a sample size of 1,406 interviews is +/-2.6%.

One Response

  1. I really think Obama need to be re-elected because his economic policies and growth in employment numbers are so strong. He needs to be re-elected because his socialist / Marxist government destruction of business, our economy and redistribution of wealth is incomplete. He needs to be re-elected because his party has not yet spent nearly enough or racked up enough debt – yet. We really need 4 more years of him and his wife telling all of us how to live in his new world order.
