Progressive City Councilman Bill Peduto leads the pack according to the first poll of the Pittsburgh mayoral primary since Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced he won’t seek re-election.
The survey was conducted by Keystone Analytics.
Peduto, who officially has been running for the office for months and unofficially for nearly a decade, has 30%.
Former Pa. Auditor General and state Sen. Jack Wagner took 20%. He has not officially declared his candidacy, but he and supporters are presently circulating petitions.
City Controller Michael Lamb, who like Peduto declared his candidacy before Ravenstahl dropped out, is in third place at 13%.
State Sen. Jim Ferlo is in fourth with 7% and City Council President Darlene Harris is in fifth at 5%. Neither has announced a bid, though Harris has confirmed she is circulating petitions.
Wagner lead the pack with 93% name ID, followed by Peduto at 89%, Lamb at 87% and Harris at 77%. The release did not specify Ferlo’s ID, aside the fact that is is above Harris’.
“The survey also asked voters about issues,” the pollster wrote. “Not surprisingly, jobs and economic development pulled the biggest numbers at 34 percent, with investing in schools close behind at 25 percent. Investigating government corruption is important to 17 percent of voters.”
This is the first poll we’ve seen from Lemoyne-based Keystone Analytics, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pa. Association of Realtors. They surveyed 401 of likely Pittsburgh voters on March 4 and 5 using live calls to landlines and cellphones. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.9 percent.
The firm determined “likely voters” according to data from past election turnout.
H/t Keystone Politics.

Wagner will come out on top by the end, once his supporters really ramp their operation.
Peduto is a highbrow loser who can’t relate to rest of city outside shadyside and squirrel hill. He’s blinded by ambition and needs to start thinking of the city instead of himsel
Didn’t a bunch of prominent realtors make a contribution to Peduto? Isn’t this a back door way to avoid campaign finance rules?
Peduto has been stuck at 30 forever! I remember he was there eighteen months ago and with all the hoopla and push from the County Exec, you’d think he would be able to move up with Luke out. He’s just not that inspiring.
I was called for this poll the other night and it was all PEDUTO PUSH questions! What a biased poll. SHAME ON PEDUTO AND ON KEYSTONE ANALYTICS for this SHAM POLL! That’s how they campaign, cheat and manipulate. That’s how he will govern!
