Post-Gazette: Corbett Administration Backs Voter ID Requirement

The state’s top election official came out today in support of a GOP-backed effort to require voters to show photo identification every time they cast a ballot in Pennsylvania.

Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele said that the proposed requirement for photo IDs would make it harder to commit voter fraud.

She made her remarks this morning in Lancaster at the Pennsylvania County Election Officials Conference.

  1. If Secretary Aichele truly wants to “protect the integrity of every vote” she will start working to replace Pennsylvania’s aging, unrecountable, paperless electronic voting machines.

  2. Ummmm…. once again, when given the opportunity the GOP finds ways to bring government more into people’s lives.

Can ANYONE name for me any legitimate claims of voter fraud in this state? Certainly with Corbett as AG he would have found something in the last 8 years? The GOP has run the AG office since it began, if there was fraud in the past, would you not have thought they would have uncovered some? This is fabricated nonsense.

Nope, this is all about a party that likes to keep people from voting. Period. Oh well, forgot your ID: too bad. Go home, get some and come back. Better yet, don’t come back.

  3. I’m all for it. There is far too much opportunity for shenanigans in the voting process these days and I have no problem requiring proof of identification from anyone who shows up to vote. We have to show IDs for other things; why not for one of the most important functions a citizen can perform?

  4. There has been ONLY 4 cases since 2004. It will cost the taxpayer of this state $11 million to implement this voter suppression bill. I thought the republican party was for less government? How will get this contract???
