PPP Poll: Majority Say Kane Shouldn’t Run for Re-Election

Kane-sadAny way you slice it, Pennsylvanians don’t want Attorney General Kathleen Kane back for a second term.

That’s the conclusion one forms when looking at the AG’s latest numbers from the recent PPP survey.

When asked whether or not Kane should run for re-election next year, 56% said no. 27% were not sure. Just 17% feel she should run again.

At the moment Kane’s favorability is just 21%, down ten points from PPP’s last poll in January. Her unfavorability rating also rose from 33% to 38%. The plurality of respondents (41%) are not sure about her.

PPP also asked if Kane should resign right now. 40% were unsure while 35% said yes and 25% responded no. If the Attorney General is indicted, however, 65% of Pennsylvanians feel she should step down while only 16% say she should stay.

Looking at the crosstabs, some of the questions concerning Kane had large gender gaps while others did not. For example, the favorable/unfavorable split was much closer among women (24/29) then men (18/49).

Additionally, men are much more likely to favor Kane’s immediate resignation (44%) than women (27%).

One big issue for the Attorney General, though, is that 50% of female respondents still feel she shouldn’t run for re-election in 2016. Even worse, when asked if Kane should step down if indicted, there is a much smaller gender gap. 69% of males and 60% of females would call for her resignation in that circumstance.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 799 registered voters from May 21st to 24th. 80% of interviews were conducted over the phone while 20% interviewed over the internet. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 3.5%.
