PPP Poll: Pennsylvanians Are Worried About Climate Change; Support EPA Plan

carbon-emissionsThis week President Obama released a historic new clean power plan.

The goal is to reduce the carbon emissions of the nation’s power plants by 32% compared to 2005 levels. This will be done on a state-by-state basis and is targeted towards 2030.

Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning firm, surveyed the residents of eight different states on this new proposal. Among the eight states was Pennsylvania (PPP also polled Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia).

Respondents in each state were asked three questions: 1. How much of a problem do you consider climate change to be? 2. Do you support or oppose the EPA’s Clean Power Plan? 3. If an elected official supported this plan, would it make you more or less favorable towards that official.

59% of Pennsylvanians described climate change as a serious problem compared to just 40% who believe it is not.

Furthermore, 58% support the EPA’s plan while 38% oppose it.

Finally, 65% of PA respondents stated that if an elected official backed the EPA plan they would be either more favorable towards them or neutral. Just 27% said such a stance would decrease their favorability toward that politician.

PPP conducted the survey for the group Americans United for Change.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 4,517 registered voters in CO, FL, MN, NH, NV, OH, PA, and VA between July 31st and August 3rd. The survey’s margin of error is +/- 1.5%.

  4. Looks like a push poll to me as PPP admits that they discussed the Clean Power Plan with the respondent without releasing the complete script:

“2. Now that you’ve heard about the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, do you support or oppose the plan?”

Shame on PPP and PoliticsPA to report this out.

  5. 100% of EPA scientists agree that these [extremely costly and regressive] regulations will affect warming by 0.01 degree Celcius.

This is a welcomed debate. Remember 2010?
