Primary 2025: What We’re Watching
It’s Municipal Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania.
For many of you, there are few, if any, glamour races on the ballot. Just mayor, school board, city council, various judicial offices, district attorney … or as we like to think about it … the people who really make the decisions that affect your day-to-day life.
Others, mostly in the Commonwealth’s larger cities, have an opportunity to select candidates to represent their party for County Executive, Mayor, Judge, or District Attorney in the November election.
Some of you are shut out altogether, as registered independents and members of a third party are ineligible to vote for Republican and Democratic candidates in our state’s closed primary system.
Here is what you need to know today and what we are watching when the polls close at 8 p.m. And follow us on Twitter to get the latest election results tonight.
When Are the Polls Open?
Polling places are open throughout the Commonwealth beginning at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m. If you are in line at 8 p.m., you will be permitted to cast your vote. Join the line at 8:01 … you’re too late.
Where is my polling location?
The Polling Place Search tool will help you locate a polling place for Election day.
Am I Registered to Vote?
You may search for your voter registration status with your Name or your PennDOT Driver’s License or PennDOT ID.
Do I need to show ID at the polls?
No. Unless it’s your first time voting at a new polling place. If it’s your first time voting at a new location, you must bring one of the approved forms of identification. Your ID doesn’t need to be a photo ID. There are many forms of non-photo ID that are acceptable.
