Levittown attorney and Pennsbury School Board member Jim Prokopiak is the winner of the Pennsylvania State House special election in the 140th Legislative District.
With all 33 precincts reporting, Prokopiak, a Democrat, received 67 percent of the vote, while Republican candidate Candace Cabanas pulled in 32%.
“I ran for this seat because I want to make peoples’ lives easier in Bucks County,” said Prokopiak. “What I heard from voters is that Bucks County residents need help supporting their families, want control over their own bodies, and ensure they have the ability to chart their own paths in life. I’m committed to taking my conversations with voters to Harrisburg and making their dreams a reality.
“I want to thank voters in my district who put their trust in me, as well as the DLCC for their support. I’m excited to get to work with the House Democratic majority to deliver for families across Bucks County and Pennsylvania. I’m honored to join the Pennsylvania Democratic caucus and look forward to being back on the ballot for a full term in November.”
His victory retains the majority in the lower chamber for Democrats at 102-100.
“This victory is a promising sign for Democrats up and down the ballot this year – it’s clear that momentum is on our side,” said DLCC President Heather Williams. “Now, our focus turns to defending the Pennsylvania House and making gains in the Pennsylvania Senate in November.”
“Donald Trump lost big tonight in an important county in a critical battleground state as his unpopular extreme MAGA agenda continues to be rejected by voters,” added Biden-Harris 2024 Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. “With control of the state House on the line, Pennsylvanians again defeated Republicans’ anti-abortion agenda and voted for Jim Prokopiak, a Democrat who has stood up for women and working people.”
A little luster was taken off the race after the resignation of Rep. Joe Adams (R-Pike/Wayne) last week. His departure guaranteed that Democrats would retain control of the House no matter who captured the 140th District race.
Prokopiak will replace John Galloway who resigned his post to serve as a Falls Township magisterial district judge. The Associated Press called the race at 8:10 p.m.

Turn out was low due to it being a Special Election in the middle of a snow storm that closed the schools, libraries and a drop box location in the County. But all of the Canvassing, TV Commercials, Attack Ads, phone calls., text messaging and Mail-In Ballot Chasing paid off. Yesterday despite the weather and the odds, we proved Will Rogers wrong. We rejected the null hypothesis of Will Rogers who said, “I don’t belong to any organized political party, I am a registered Democrat.” We got organized, disciplined and got out the vote (GOTV) to victory. We did what Nancy Pelosi said we should do “ORGANIZE” and we “Participated” like Michael Moore said we should do to show the world what a real democracy looks like. “We, the people,” rule not the 1% Oligarchs like Trump, if we show up and vote.
