Physician and activist Valerie Arkoosh maintained a strong fundraising effort in the second quarter. She brought in more than $285,000 in April, May and June, her campaign said.
It brings her total raised so far to $503,000. Her campaign did not announce its cash on hand.
“I am so grateful for the support I’ve received over the last several months,” said Arkoosh, “It tells me that people want more than a politician right now, they are tired of career politicians who, candidly, haven’t brought any new ideas or expertise to the table.”
“If we want quality healthcare, strong schools, and an economy that works for everyone, we need a new kind of leadership now more than ever.”
She’s competing in the four-way Democratic primary to replace Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Montco), who is running for Governor.
She is the first to announce her numbers. She faces state Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Phila), state Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Montco) and former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolies in the safe-Dem congressional seat.
Arkoosh is a physician and healthcare reform activist. She has the inside track on 13th district fundraising: her husband was Schwartz’s congressional campaign treasurer for several cycles.
She’ll need it. The primary figures to be very competitive, and the district falls inside the expensive Philadelphia media market. And unlike her opponents who have served in elected office in the past, Arkoosh is almost entirely new to 13th district voters.

Her number depends on what the other major players in this race raised. If Boyle, Leach or MMM are 20% either way on her number, it is essentially not a story.
